About

Prasanth Baskar, also known as bupd, is an open source software engineer working around Harbor, Kubernetes, container registries, and developer systems.

I am Prasanth Baskar, usually bupd on the internet.

I work as an open source software engineer at 8gears and around the Harbor/container-registry ecosystem. My public work sits around Harbor, Kubernetes, container registries, OCI artifacts, platform engineering, Linux systems, and developer tooling.

I started from mechanical engineering, which probably explains why I keep looking at software as production lines, tooling, tolerances, quality checks, and repeatable manufacturing systems instead of only code in repositories.

You can find me on GitHub, DEV, Hashnode, and Twitter/X. For email, use bupdprasanth@gmail.com.

What I care about

  • Open source infrastructure that people can trust.
  • Platform engineering that makes delivery repeatable instead of heroic.
  • Kubernetes and OCI as boring primitives for production systems.
  • Small tools, shell workflows, Arch Linux, Neovim, and tmux.
  • AI agents as implementers that need good specifications, not magic prompts.

Current focus

I am thinking about how platforms can become software factories: specifications in, verified artifacts out, traceability everywhere. That is the lens behind my writing on manufacturing software like chips.
